We kicked off our summer holiday activities with Alton Towers for our 12+ Years Young Carers. and what a day to go. Two Alton Towers employees, selflessly donated their staff tickets to allow the children to have a break from their caring role.
We arrived bright and breezy, the sun was shining, a few clouds in the sky and a nice cool temperature in the air. After briefing the Young Carers, making sure they stay in their peer groups they were off to have a great time.
Until the rain started, and start it did. About 30 minutes into the trip, the heavens opened and within seconds there were mini rivers on either side of the footpaths rushing to the drains. Sheltered areas became crowded, a sea of colourful umbrellas raised above the heads of unimpressed, soggy guests.
Then, the claps of thunder and flashes came. The cable car transport ceased operation leaving the Young Carers to walk from area to area.
This happened on three separate occasions throughout the day.
Luckily, the Theme Park confirmed it as a Rainy Day and allowed those who visited that day to return free of charge. Meaning we will be returning at the end of the summer holidays for hopefully a drier day.
